Mentors must be:

A Good Motivator: A mentor is someone who inspires a mentee to do better. A mentor needs to be able to motivate a mentee through encouraging feedback and challenging them on their perspective on session content.

Accepting of Others:  mentor should learn to accept a mentee's weaknesses and minor flaws.

Patient: A mentor is patient and willing to spend time performing mentoring responsibilities. A mentor allows adequate time to interact with the mentee. Time requirements are defined by both the mentor and the mentee.

Self-confident: A mentor must be self-assured and have the ability to affirm others.

Supportive: A mentor is one who supports the needs and aspirations of the mentee. This supportive attitude is critical to the successful development of the mentee. A mentor must encourage the mentee to accept challenges and overcome difficulties through the use of God’s word.

Inspirational: Inspires the mentee to set and reach new spiritual, physical, emotional and academic heights.

Effective communication skills: A mentor should be able to express himself coherently and have good oral skills.

Training of Mentors

Mentors will attend training sessions on usually on Saturday afternoons, where they will be briefed on the programme and taken through the mentoring pack they will be leading their mentees through during sessions. Any questions will be answered and mentors will be told of the benefits and rewards of becoming a mentor. They will also be told that the success of the programme relies heavily upon their commitment, dedication and attendance to all sessions and ongoing regular contact with their mentee. This may at times involve engaging one to one with their primary mentee outside of the usual session times. 

Responsibilities of the Mentors

A Mentor will be expected to attend sessions and guide mentees through the mentoring activities providing guidance and advice where needed. Mentors will also be required to attend specific training sessions and team meetings, which will usually be held on Saturday, Sundays or Friday evenings. It is essential that mentors attend these sessions, as a full breakdown of the course material, and current issues will be thoroughly explained.  Crown Boys Mentoring CIC is comitted to safe vetting of staff and each all mentors are subject to DBS checking. expression of interest should be made by emailing us at crownboymentors@hotmail.com
